There are 370,000 young carers across the country. These are young people aged 7-25 who look after a family member who suffers from a physical or mental illness. In order to be officially recognised as a young carer, the person has to spend at least 35 hours per week caring for their family member. It’s not a just a ‘job’, there is no wage, it is everyday life. It impacts everything. I have been caring for my mum since the age of 12. I am doing this talk in order to share my experiences with you, and to raise a little awareness.
