Creating a sense of wonder for people with dementia (from 25 June)

Researchers are running free workshops and are looking for people to take part in sensory activities and discussions.

Researchers from the University’s Dementia Research and Innovation Centre (NDRIC) are exploring how stimulating our senses can create a sense of wonder for people with dementia and support their health and wellbeing.

There will be four workshops at the Emmanuel Church, Weston Favell Shopping Centre, with the first on Tuesday 25 June at 10:00-12:00 and volunteers can attend one or all of them.

The workshops will involve sensory play, such as listening to nature-based audio with eyes closed or using a ‘bouncy’ playdough but less messy and burning incense to create smells. The aim is to create a sense of wonder and stimulate conversation about creating therapeutic support for people who have dementia.

Free refreshments will be provided on the day; please email harvey.illing20@my.northampton.ac.uk for more and to book a place.
