EXPERIENCE THE SPARKS LAB
YOUR CHANGEMAKER JOURNEY STARTS HERE
The Sparks Lab is a dynamic process using design thinking to look at social issues, challenging our assumptions and working collaboratively to refine the problem, identify areas of research needed and create potential solutions.
This is an energetic workshop where participation is critical and humour a necessity.
This workshop supports the spark of ideas.
Social innovation is a common term used in Changemaking. This workshop provides you with a taste of social innovation; defining the term and process. It is where Changemaker crosses over with your academic knowledge, your skills and your passion. On completion of this workshop you will have explored the causes and effects of a social problem, and come up with a few ideas to improve the problem. You will have experienced a social innovation technique and be able to apply this toolkit to other social problems.
The programme includes a workshop in research methods:
As part of your Summer School Experience you will take part in a one-day Human Centred Design Workshop. During this interactive workshop you will meet students from other parts of the world – studying varied disciplines and subjects. You will work as part of a team to identify a global challenge and be supported to explore the best approach to researching your chosen topic.
You will be guided through a range of research options and approaches to help you and your team decide on the best approach to investigate a social or environmental issue that is important to you.
This research workshop will not only improve your cross-cultural understanding and team working skills but will also give you a greater understanding of approaches to research and how to work as a team to identify and solve complex social issues.
