Elaine Batchelor

Head of Initial Teacher Education (ITE), The University of Northampton

The ITE team provides research informed training programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate trainee primary school teachers. Elaine works with academic tutors, primary school headteachers and mentors and various University teams to support the strategic planning and quality assurance of professionally regulated academic courses. Her work also focuses on developing blended learning and quality assessment and mentoring practices related to placements.  Elaine is a module leader within MA Educational Leadership and Management.

Elaine worked at the University of Leicester as the Programme Leader for PGCE Secondary Science as well as Science Advisor for Leicester City Local Authority following 21 years of teaching. In her role at the LA, she led the International Teachers’ CPD projects.

Elaine is the Chair of the NCTL Midlands 2 Network representing all ITT providers in the East Midlands. She is a Chartered Science Teacher and is completing her PhD relating to the influence of primary science coordinators on trainee teachers.
