Sorrell graduated with a BEd (Hons) degree before taking up various teaching positions in five different primary schools in Northamptonshire over a thirty year career. He was Deputy Head teacher for 20 years as well as an Art Subject leader for over 25 years.
He joined the University as a Senior Lecturer in October 2005 just as it was granted university status and has worked in both the Foundation and the Bachelor of Arts degree for Learning and Teaching as well as Initial Teacher Training. For the last eight years he has been the Year 1 Leader for Primary Education.
Sorrell is Year 1 Leader (Academic and Pastoral role) on the BA (QTS) Primary programme. He also leads on the Professional Studies (ITT1001) and School Placement modules (ITT1026P & ITT1027P).
He teaches art on the Specialism courses (ITT1022, ITT2035 and ITT3024). He teaches art on the foundation subjects modules in Year 1 and 2 (ITT1004 and ITT2039), on the Post Grad Teaching, Learning and assessment module (ITTM003).
He teaches on the Year 2 Professional studies module, (ITT2001) and is a visiting tutor for students whilst on school placement- Year 1, 2 & 3.
Completed PGCTHE and Fellow of HE.
Currently member of the ‘Apps for Innovation’ research team in the SoE. Contributor at Learning and Teaching Conference, 2014. Supervises UG dissertation Art Specialism students on BA Primary programme.
