  • Miles Hancock is a composer, arranger and performer. To date, he has composed music for numerous films across a broad range of genres, working on scores for dramas such as: Bardo (dir.Abid Khan/ EyeFive Films), Afro-Woman 2016CE (Shatara Michelle Ford), The Reverie (Sam Wildman, 2015), Fox Trap (Jamie Weston/ Sony Entertainment) and The Crossing (Jack King). He is also known for his work on the Feature documentary, Trapped in a Box (Martina Lopez, 2014) and for his award-winning score for the Indian animation Magarwasi (Best Sound and Music at BSFF, Michigan, USA).

    Miles’ music has been broadcast on television programmes across the UK and internationally, being heard on the BBC and international networks as far afield as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In 2015, Miles was commissioned to compose the music for a large-scale campaign for British Mountain Rescue, which was unveiled at the premiere for Everest (Baltasar Kormákur, 2015)

    In addition to film and television, Miles also had a spell as head composer for US-based game developer Forsaken Studios, writing music for their highly anticipated MMO-RPG Embers of Caerus. As part of his work on the game soundtrack, Miles collaborated with the international singing sensation Malukah on the creation of the song Sisters of Salvation.

    Far from being confined to writing music solely for visual media, Miles is also at home in writing music for live performance, often working with artists from a multitude of cultural and musical backgrounds. Most notably in the creation of Breakbeat Concerto, a concerto for beatboxer, turntablist and orchestra, which was premiered in a live concert in early 2012 by 2x UK Beatbox Champion Reeps One and 2x UK DMC Champion turntablist JFB. The piece then received an international premiere in 2014 when it was performed in Yerevan, Armenia by 4x World DMC Champion DJ Mr Switch and the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, conducted by Sergey Smbatyan. Since then, Miles has also been composing and orchestrating music for Symphonica, a new electronic crossover project for DJ and orchestra, headed by Mr Switch. After premiering at Boomtown Festival in 2015, Symphonica has toured venues and festivals across the UK, including Glastonbury, Village Underground, Shambala and the London Remixed Festival. In 2016, Symphonica and Mr Switch were nominated for ‘Live Act of the Year’ at the AIF Festival Congress Awards, alongside Jack Garratt and Blossoms.

    As a performer, arranger and bandleader, Miles heads up Jazz Colossus, a 20-piece big band that have performed internationally and featured guest artists such as Omar, Liane Carroll, Alex Wilson, Nolita Golding and Tom Seals. Miles performs in a variety of bands and stage shows and currently performs in the horn section for Tom Grennan.
