Staff Profile

  • Ashokkumar developed his skills in leather finishing with a combination of education, research and industrial experience.

He has received various awards for his excellence in academia and research including ‘Young Innovative Idea Award 2019’, CSIR-CLRI (Central Leather Research Institute), India for his hypothesis on ‘Self-healing leather: Nature inspired engineering’.

  • Module leader for:

    • LEA1011 – Leather Surface Coatings 1
    • LEA2006 – Surface Coatings 2
    • LEAM025 – Advanced Leather Finishing

    Module Tutor for:

    • LEA3001 – Leather Technology 3
    • LEA4001 – Project
    • LEAM019 – Hide to High Street
  • His research experience is broad and focuses more on interdisciplinarity which enables him to support and consult various contract research.

He also has research interests focusing on sustainable leather surface modification, smart surface coatings, sustainable chemicals for coatings and deciphering misconception on leather finish.
