Ann Shelton Mayes is Executive Dean of the School of Education at the University of Northampton. She leads the School of Education, which has a national reputation for excellence for its taught UG and PG programmes for the children and young people’s workforce, including teacher initial and continuing professional development, early years and SEN & Inclusion practitioners, and the wider School’s workforce alongside a strong international research reputation in SEN & Inclusion. Her corporate University responsibilities are for Quality and Student Experience. She was formerly a deputy head in a secondary comprehensive school and Director of Initial Teacher Training Programmes at the Open University. Her career in higher education has focused on teacher professional development – initial teacher training (pre-service) and postgraduate professional development (in-service) and she has published in the area of distance education, mentoring, professional standards, initial teacher training and teacher professional development. She has been involved in international teacher education projects in Africa and USA. She is a Fellow of the RSA.
