You will study the global sport business industry and have the option to study a variety of disciplines – from elite to grass roots including leadership, digital marketing, media, PR and brands to sports management, economics and events management.

Employability and enterprise are key elements of this programme. You will complete 120 hours of placement in your second year and have access to a range of opportunities to engage in work-related learning so that you can put theory into practice, develop professional networks and increase your social capital.  You also have the option after your second year to take an optional placement year or a additional final year 120 hour placement.

The University of Northampton works with a number of  local sporting bodies such as Saints Rugby, Northampton Steelbacks Cricket, Silverstone Racing, Northampton Town FC, N Sport, England Dodgeball, Northampton Rowing Club, Northampton Swimming Club, among many others. Our key contacts with local community sports club also provide an excellent base for students to learn and develop their sport business skills on a regular basis.

The University of Northampton works in partnership with a number of local sporting bodies such as Saints Ruby, Northampton Steelbacks Cricket, Silverstone Racing, Northampton Town FC, N Sport, England Dodgeball, Northampton Rowing Club, Northampton Swimming Club among many others.

Our close partnerships with local community sports associations provide an excellent base for students to learn and develop their sport business skills in a real life setting on a regular basis.

Course Details

BA (Hons) Sport Business and Leadership is aimed at students who wish to work in the global sports sector.  The sport industry continues to grow at a phenomenal rate creating a flourishing global job market for suitably qualified graduates.

On this course students will explore a variety of business and leadership disciplines from grass roots to elite sport – including digital media, applied marketing, PR, brands, management, leadership and events management.

Students typically study on site three days per week with a typical contact time of 12 hours per week.  We adopt a unique approach to teaching and learning which encourages face to face interactive sessions, demos and workshops. This is supported by on-line and technology-enhanced learning to ensure you have the best possible study experience to achieve your potential.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer would be CCC at A Level or DMM at BTEC. In addition, you will need to have studied a physical education, sports science or science related subject at A Level, BTEC level 3 diploma or equivalent qualification.

Admission to this foundation course is normally DEE at A Level or MPP at BTEC. However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the course that you wish to study.

Special Features

  • Sports Zone at Waterside is home to a multi-use sports dome suitable for a variety of sports, including football, badminton and netball. The facilities include two sports performance labs, a pair of teaching rooms and changing rooms. In addition, there also are three outdoor multi-use games areas and floodlit full-size all-weather sports pitch. The sports dome is used for teaching, research and recreational activities.
  • Short term Industry placements and internships.
  • Changing Futures week to learn about career options and meet prospective employers.

Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 20/21 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.

Full Time: £9,250
Part Time: £1,450 per 20 credit module
Foundation Framework: £6,750 as part of a four year programme (subsequent years will be charged at standard BSc rate).

2019/20 Tuition Fees
