Overview


The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development and Employability will enable you to critically reflect upon your career path and employability. You will improve your knowledge of the UK’s competitive employment market and will explore and enhance your professional skills to enable you to meet the requirements of today’s graduate employers and to pursue your career of choice.

The programme is open to graduates of the University of Northampton only who have completed the Silver Changemaker award. The programme consists of two modules, culminating in a short internship where learning can be applied in a real-life environment.

Course Content


  • Module one – Understanding and Enhancing Employability

    This module will enable students to explore their career choices and to better prepare themselves for what employers expect from graduates. Students will also develop their skills around resilience and dealing with change and uncertainty through class activities, discussions and practical exercises.

    Module Two –  Work Readiness and Professional Development.

    This module will provide students with an introduction to a range of assessment processes used by organisations. Students will improve their knowledge of these processes and their skills to perform confidentiality in a variety of different assessment scenarios. Group work, practical activities and class discussions will enhance skills in action planning, decision making and self presentation in preparation for a short internship at the end of the programme.

    • At the end of the two seven-week modules you will undertake an intensive internship of between 3-6 months that will enable you to gain direct employment experience and enhance your CV and career prospects.
    • You will have the opportunity to engage with a range of employers in workshops, round table sessions and employability events hosted at the University through the Changemaker hub.
    • One-to-one careers advice and guidance will be offered, and you will participate in a mock assessment center to put into practice the skills that you have developed throughout the course.
  • Graduates of the University of Northampton who have achieved a 2:2 degree or above from any discipline as well as the Bronze Changemaker award, however, not had employment or work experience within the 12 months since graduating .

    We also welcome applications from recently appointed graduates working in business (who have achieved a 2:2 or above) who would like to boost their employability prospects.

  • 21/22 Tuition Fees

    Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 21/22 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.
