Overview

This 20 credit module provides an opportunity to understand demographic and social drivers relevant to contemporary communities of practice. It explores the value of co-production as part of person-centered practice and evaluates the professional contribution to meet the needs of the groups in diverse settings. The module aims to equip students for engagement in the strategic response of their profession to contemporary health and social needs, and to become skilled in co-produced analysis and evaluation of community needs. The emphasis is on private, independent and third sector organisations, supporting the essential work that picks up needs from healthcare gaps.

Course Content

  • Students will have the opportunity to engage with an organisation and gain an insight into their practices and values, working with them to find solutions that will make a positive difference to meet the needs of the community.  The module uses the community development national occupational standards to shape understanding of practice in a student’s chosen sector. Working in a co-productive way enables shared understanding of where gaps exist and how realistic recommendations can be met to meet the needs. The module is taught inter-professionally with expertise from occupational therapy and youth/community development.

This module requires you to attend a total of 5 face-to-face teaching days at Waterside Campus and in the wider community.  You are also expected to undertake self-directed study to complete an assignment.
