What happens at university open days?

Open days give you the opportunity to find out more about a University and see everything that it has to offer. UON open days are free and include information on the courses available and give a chance to explore the campus. It’s the best way to find out what it’s really like to study with us at the University of Northampton!

At a University of Northampton open day you can:

The specific timings for our open days may be subject to change but you can view a sample schedule to help plan your day.

Open day FAQs

  • At the University of Northampton, we strongly recommend that open day places are booked in advance, so make sure you secure a place on our remaining 2023 university open days as soon as possible.

Making a booking is important for any on campus events or tours so that you get all the information you need in advance to get the most out of your visit.

If you can’t make it to a certain open day, there may be other events available and our campus tours run throughout the year. Check out our campus tours page for more information.

  • When making such an important decision, it can be very helpful to have a second opinion from someone you trust. That’s why you are very welcome to bring guests along to a UON open day.

  • Free parking is available on UON open days in car park 4 at Waterside Campus. Please use the following postcode NN4 8RR to find us.

If you’re planning to travel using our Park & Ride, make sure you use this address: Claret Car Park, Edgar Mobbs Way, Sixfields, Northampton, NN5 5JR. There is usually a cost for the Park & Ride but it is free to use during our open days.

If you plan to travel by train, please plan your journey in advance. When you arrive in Northampton, we’ve got you covered from the train station to campus. The open day bus from the Park and Ride stops at the station and our Student Ambassador (wearing a blue uniform) will be on hand to point you in the right direction.

If you are from London, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Birmingham, Leicester or Coventry, we do also offer free transport, further details will be emailed to you when you register.

*Please note, we require 3 working days in order to book a seat on our transport. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

If you’re planning your journey and need somewhere to stay locally the night before, we have an exclusive reduced rate at our Sunley Hotel for those attending an open day.

£65 room only, per room per night or £70 B&B per room per night. Email sunleyhotel@northampton.ac.uk or call 01604 892020 and quote ‘open day’ when booking.

If you live over 100 miles away, we have a limited number of complementary rooms available for the night before the open day. Please contact The Events Team for more details.

*Please note, we require 3 working days in order to book complimentary rooms for anyone eligible. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

  • We endeavour to make all our events completely accessible. However, if you have any specific needs or require additional facilities, please contact us on 01604 892568 or events@northampton.ac.uk.

  • We understand that some people will need reasonable adjustments to access our university open days. The Events Team are always happy to help you plan your day to suit your requirements and you may wish to arrive after 10.30am and attend some of our lunchtime and afternoon sessions which can be quieter.

As your well-being and accessibility are our priority, we also offer a quiet tour option for those that need it. Please speak to a member of the Welcome Team when you arrive at registration.

  • Those looking to study postgraduate courses with us are welcome to attend UON open days for a PG drop in. We also host postgraduate specific events. To find out more, visit our postgraduate events page to see our upcoming postgraduate events.

  • If you are interested in MA History or Health and Social Care CPD courses, these won’t be at the open day. This is because their class format means that there are better ways we can tell you about them.

If you have a course enquiry, the best option is to contact the course teams directly via the details on the course web pages. We also periodically run webinars for these courses so check out our Events Listings for what is coming up and the latest info regarding uni open days in 2023.

  • When it comes to what to wear to a uni open day, there are no set rules but if you plan to take a campus tour, comfortable footwear is recommended.

  • Our virtual tour is a great way to see the campus. When you arrive for an open day, you will first head to the Creative Hub to let us know you are here so make sure you check out this location when you are browsing the campus online.

  • If you are looking to avoid the crowds then we would recommend arriving after 10.30am and attending some of our lunchtime and afternoon sessions. The full schedule will be on our website at least a couple of weeks before each of our events and the Events Team are always happy to help you plan your day. Please do drop them an email if you want to chat further about this.

  • We recommend checking out our Stepping into University pages which will guide you though the steps to take to starting university as well as help prepare you for higher education.

  • Check our our Living Room Lectures where you will be able to gain an insight into life at the University of Northampton and get all your questions answered whilst staying at home. Please check our event listings for more information.

Or come and join us for a campus tour.

If you have any questions you can email events@northampton.ac.uk or you can talk to us directly on 01604 892 568.
