BA English and Philosophy graduate Joe Smith recently appeared on Dragons Den with his father Mike Smith to pitch their company and product “Wheelbarrow Booster”. Wheelbarrow Booster is an ingenious new product designed to increase the capacity of a wheelbarrow for moving large volumes of materials.
All five dragons were impressed with the invention with Duncan Bannatyne and Hilary Devey making the father and son team a joint offer of £50,000 for a 50% share of the company.
After debating the offer, Joe and Mike decided that a 50% stake in the company was a little too much to give up and decided to walk away from the den empty handed. However, Joe and his father have been going from strength to strength and have since secured large orders from Homebase and set up meetings with B&Q.
The product has also been featured on The Alan Titchmarsh show and was named Innovation of the week on the Simon Mayo BBC Radio 2 Drivetime show.
We wish them the best of luck.
