The checklist below includes all of the essential things you will need to do before you arrive on campus:

  • Read all the correspondence that we have sent to you
  • Check your course details
  • Find out about support for additional needs. If you have additional needs relating to a disability, medical condition, dyslexia or mental health difficulty please contact us on 01604 893430 or email to discuss your needs
  • Read the University rules, regulations and Student Partnership Agreement
  • Ensure that you have completed and returned any forms that we have sent to you, for example:
    • your online accommodation application and reservation if you require accommodation in halls of residence
    • your online Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) if required for your course. Check your application and send any supporting documents to the Admissions Office
    • If your contact details or circumstances have changed since you confirmed your place you will need to contact the Admissions Office by emailing
  • Read the Enrolment information page for further details of documentation that you will need to bring

If you have placements at Northampton General Hospital you will need to set up an account on their electronic system to complete forms sent to Occupational Health. Please download the NGH portal instructions document and set up your portal account.

Bank account

Having a bank account prior to arriving at University will save you from storing cash in your room or on your person.


The University has arranged standard personal possessions insurance with Endsleigh Insurance – this is included in your rent payments. You will need to register with Endsleigh to activate this policy.

Endsleigh can offer the opportunity to bolt on additional cover which will incur an additional cost for you.

Mains powered TV

You will need to bring a television with you if you want to watch TV as the rooms do not have TVs already.

If you watch TV or stream live programmes on your computer or other devices you will need to purchase a TV licence. Please see our TV Licensing Information page for further details.

Postal address

Make sure you have circulated your new postal address to your friends and family.

If you are living at Park Campus the post room is located in the Holdenby building. The post room opens for student access between 10am – 4pm. Students living in East Halls can collect their post from the post boxes in the foyers from midday. You will be given keys for each post box.

If you are living at Avenue Campus you can collect your post from Quinton Lodge. You can send stamped mail from there also.

Network and WiFi access

This is available in all of our Halls of Residence.


On the day of your arrival you will need to register with the on-campus doctors surgery. We also advise that you register with a local dentist.

Bring the essentials that you need with you and then you can buy the rest on arrival.


We provide a wardrobe in each room for clothes storage, you will need to bring your own coat hangers with you.


You will need to bring a quilt, bed sheets and pillows.

If you are an international student, a bedding pack will be provided for you (the charge for this will be deducted from your Key and Damage deposit)

Kitchen equipment

We provide a small amount storage for kitchen equipment. You will need to bring your own crockery and cutlery with you.

Electrical equipment such as toasters and rice cookers are not allowed in halls.


Only bring limited food with you on your first day, there are plenty of opportunities to go shopping within the first few days of being on campus.
