All halls of residence at the University of Northampton have general kitchen appliances available for use, including toasters and microwaves, but you will need to bring your own pots, pans, cutlery and bedding. You must not smoke inside any halls of residence building.
Cleaning and laundry facilities
There are a number of coin-operated washing machines and tumble driers available in all our halls of residence.
We provide a cleaning service for communal areas during term time, but you will be responsible for keeping your accommodation clean and tidy. Our cleaning staff won’t move your possessions when they clean. If you don’t keep your room and communal areas clean, we may withdraw cleaning services or charge you.
Recycling and waste collection
Recycling facilities are available in all halls of residence, as well as in academic and administrative areas on both Park and Avenue campus, including bins for:
- food, paper, cardboard, plastics, cans and general waste
- glass bottles
- printer and toner cartridges – the Students’ Union has a collection point inside the main entrance of their building at Park campus
- clothing and textiles
We arrange standard personal possessions insurance with Endsleigh Insurance – the cost of this is included in your rent payments. You can increase your level of cover with Endsleigh but will need to pay for this yourself.
All of the bedrooms in our halls have WiFi and the facility to connect to the University’s ResNET. Network access is free for residents.
If you want to watch live TV or stream live TV online in your room you must buy a television licence. If you have a television that is used to watch live TV in your flat’s communal area you must have a TV licence for the flat. You do not need to buy a licence if you don’t watch or stream live TV on any device, including phones, tablets and computers.
The quality of TV reception can really vary between halls, so you may wish to wait until you arrive on campus before you decide whether you will watch live TV.
