What can I study?

At The University of Northampton we offer over 100 different courses encompassing more than 50 different subject areas. Courses are available at foundation, certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At undergraduate level subjects can be studied on their own (Single Honours courses) or combined in a variety of ways (Joint Honours).

Our English language requirements

Applicants for whom English is not their first language will need to demonstrate that they meet the minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.0 for undergraduate and IELTS 6.5 for postgraduate study. We are also happy to accept equivalent English language qualifications in TOEFL, Cambridge Exams or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).

English Language courses

If you want to improve your English, The University of Northampton has the courses to help you do it. The courses are particularly useful to students who are planning to study at degree or postgraduate level at The University of Northampton or any other British university.

The Certificate of Competence course runs from September to June and is designed to improve your general English and to prepare you for studying degree courses in English. However, if you want to improve your English for other reasons, this course is equally useful.

The Pre-Sessional English Courses run from July to September and continues the preparation for study in a university environment The International Foundation Programme is for those students whose academic and English language qualifications do not meet the entry requirements for degree level study. This course offers a range of subject-focused modules in the areas of business, social science, computing, science and technology as well as general and academic English modules.

The courses are all delivered on our attractive Park Campus site and the course team are all highly experienced teachers who have designed the courses to enable you to succeed in your English language studies. The full-time staff are all highly qualified tutors with many years experience of teaching English to students in a university environment. They understand what is needed to be successful in learning a foreign language.

All English language courses make full use of the first-class library and IT facilities which the University offers and you will receive expert support to enable you to make full use of these excellent resources.
