University of Northampton records highest ever level of overall satisfaction

Date 13.11.2015

Our students are officially among the most satisfied in the UK! The 2013 National Student Survey (NSS) figures reveal that the University of Northampton’s overall student satisfaction rate is 88%, the University’s highest overall satisfaction rate since becoming a University.

The 88% overall satisfaction rate places the University three percentage points above the sector average of 85% for higher education institutions in the UK; placing the University in the top 44 for satisfaction ratings, when compared to all Higher Education Institutions in England.

The University performed well with regards to assessment and feedback, with a score 5% higher than the sector average. Academic support and students’ personal development were also rated highly in the NSS survey.

The NSS is a nationally recognised and independent annual census of over a quarter of a million UK students. It gives final year students at universities across the country the opportunity to have their say on how satisfied they are with their university. Questions cover a number of areas including teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction. Students are also given the opportunity to give positive or negative comments on their whole student learning experience at their university or college.

Over 64% of eligible University of Northampton final year students completed the survey this year, representing the views of over 2,700 students at the University. The results provide valuable information for both prospective students and for the University. The University of Northampton is committed to improving the services and facilities that it offers year on year.

Vice-Chancellor, Nick Petford, said: “At the University of Northampton, we strive to offer all our students an outstanding academic and student experience and so we are delighted that this is reflected in this year’s NSS Survey.

“This result demonstrates that the University of Northampton is definitely on the up, as it follows on from our tremendous leap in both the Complete University Guide 2014 and the Guardian League Table 2014.

“Student experience is at the heart of what we do. We are proud of our state-of-the-art facilities and technology that ensures all students have access to extensive libraries, IT suites, studios, innovative learning spaces and laboratories. We have also invested millions of pounds in new facilities and buildings across both campuses, which are close-knit, yet large enough to offer students everything they need.”
