University of Northampton Advertising students take part in Vehicle Wrap Challenge

Date 13.11.2015

Advertising students from Northampton Business School are taking part in challenge to design and produce a full body promotional wrap on a black taxi cab to advertise their degree course and the University of Northampton by using case studies of current students.

The 16 students, who are all in their first year, will work closely with the University’s Marketing Department on the Vehicle Wrap Challenge. They will manage all elements of the advertising campaign process from copy writing, managing a photo shoot, budget and project management to briefing the designers. The cab will carry the advertising for a year as it works around Northampton and will be hired for use at Open Days and at a launch event, which will take place in the next few months.

The campaign is being funded by a £3,000 grant from the University’s Innovation Fund, which the students successfully pitched for and so far they have organised a photo shoot with a professional photographer to capture images for the case studies. The next step is to select and brief a design agency.

The aim of the project is to give the students a hands-on experience through doing so they can understand the processes and challenges of producing advertising materials by creating something tangible and high profile.

Kardi Somerfield, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Northampton Business School, commented: “We are working hard to provide a great experience for our students, which will translate into skills they can draw upon when they get out into the workplace. This is one of the most exciting projects I have worked on so far and the students have impressed me in the way they have risen to the challenge. I look forward to continuing working with them on this campaign in the New Year.”
