The University of Northampton makes minor amendments to its outline planning application

Date 27.07.2016

The University of Northampton has exciting proposals to build a new Waterside Campus in Northampton’s Waterside Enterprise Zone.  If the plans for the town centre campus progress as expected, the University will relocate for September 2018.

The University of Northampton has made some minor amendments to its outline planning application for the development of a new campus at the Waterside (Avon/Nunn Mills) site.

The initial application was presented to Planning Committee in December 2013, where it was unanimously approved by Councillors. Since then, detailed design work has necessitated a number of minor changes to the scheme. These amendments have been submitted to Northampton Borough Council and are now subject to consultation.

There are three main changes:

  • The planning application boundary (‘red line’) has been slightly amended to allow: a right turn lane on Bedford Road into Riverside Way and
increased soft and hard landscaping around the proposed Becket’s Park footbridge.
  • The masterplan has been amended to expand the land available for the University’s sporting facilities. This will now include a four court sports hall. As a result, the land available for commercial development is slightly reduced. A University lawn is now proposed to provide a better entrance to the campus whilst we are waiting for a commercial development to come forward.
  • There are some changes to the design of the vehicle bridge over the River Nene.
To support the consultation and to make it easier to identify the proposed changes the University has produced a single plan to illustrate the changes, which along with a letter and an associated question and answer sheet summarises the detail of the application.

The full set of plans are available on the Northampton Borough Council website, application number N/2013/0912 and the deadline for responses is Tuesday 8th July
