Mock interviews give NBS undergraduates an extra edge in the jobs market

Date 15.02.2016

Business students from the University of Northampton have been given an extra edge in the jobs market thanks to a group of local and national employers.

Representatives from a selection of firms visited the University’s Northampton Business School for a day of mock interviews with undergraduates.

The event allowed students to test their written and verbal skills by filling out job applications, and undergoing face-to-face interviews with employers which regularly offer placements and recruit graduates from the University.

Firms included builders’ merchants Travis Perkins; chartered accountancy Elsby & Co; recruitment company Skyes & Co; Enterprise Rent-A-Car; Lex Conscientia, which supports law firms; exhibition stand contractor Nimlok; Kingfisher Lighting and electrical component distributor RS Components.

Ian Lloyd, Head of Operations at Kingfisher Lighting, said: “This event has been a great opportunity to support the leaders of tomorrow.”

Claire Corkram, Employer Engagement Co-ordinator at Northampton Business School said: “This is our third successful year of running this event. The impact for the students is incredible – they are able to test their ability and gain valuable feedback on how they can improve, ready for when they graduate and enter the world of work.

“It also allows businesses to come in and meet with our students and support them with their early careers development and discuss their organisation’s graduate opportunities.”

Mary MacInnes, a second year BA (Hons) Business Studies undergraduate, added: “It has really helped me to gain a better insight into graduate recruitment.”
