Following on from last month’s book collection for Northampton General Hospital, staff and students are encouraged to pass on any additional unwanted books to support literacy efforts around the world.
The Library and Learning Services (LLS) team have a long standing arrangement with Betterworld Books, who keep books out of landfill and support literacy by selling them on multiple online marketplaces, with the funds going to literacy charities around the world.
The University’s Jenny Townend, Learning Support Specialist, explained: “As you’d expect, here in LLS we are passionate about books – we love to read and we love to share and that’s why, for many years, we have been donating books to Betterworld Books, a brilliant social enterprise working with charity partners to redistribute or sell books that are no longer needed. In particular, we support their partnership with READ International which is a student-led charity working to create safe and inspiring libraries in Tanzania.”
If you would like to support the initiative, please hand in any unwanted books – ideally under 10 years old – to the helpdesks at Park or Avenue library.
