Leather students learn a the value of waterproofing from the Chemtan Company

Date 23.12.2015

Students at the University of Northampton’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) had the opportunity to learn more about leather waterproofing from leading international supplier, Chemtan Company.

Laboratory Manager, Lucas Paddock, delivered the annual waterproof leather workshop and demonstrated the tools Chemtan use for waterpoofing with a jet black boot, a wheat nubuck, a suede and a milled floater leather.

Lucas also attended the International Dinner, a social event that the University’s Corium Club co-hosts with the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists. Students cook dishes that are associated with their country of origin and this year guests were treated to Doctor Who’s fish finger and custard entry provided from the UK.

Karl Flowers from the ICLT commented: “The ICLT and our students benefit enormously from these interactions with industry, particularly because Lucas Paddock also spoke at our Industry Engagement day, inspiring the next generation of leather technologists.”
