Law department becomes one of select few UK universities to gain Indian Bar Council accreditation

Date 16.11.2015

The Law department is pleased to announce that following an extensive process of negotiation and cooperation in the UK and India, the 3-year LLB and its Joint Honours in Law has been approved by the Indian Bar Council. This recognition opens up the possibilities for Indian and domestic students to enrol as an advocate in India following their undergraduate studies at Northampton.

The accreditation came after months of hard work by many members of staff including Margaret Roberts and Simon Sneddon of the Law department, the International Development Manager in the School of Social Sciences, Bill Toyer, and staff in the International Office. The culmination of the work was a visit by a council delegation in June of this year.

Doug Rae, Acting Dean for the School of Social Sciences added his congratulations: “This recognition of our 3-year LLB course places the University of Northampton among a select few UK Universities which have similar accreditation. This is a great achievement for the Law department and one that the University as a whole should be rightly proud of. Increasing our international activity continues to be a key priority and gaining internationally recognised accreditations such as this helps to set us apart from our competitors.”
