Inspirational events planned for Changemaker Week

Date 12.11.2015

The University of Northampton’s commitment to creating positive social change will be celebrated with a week of activities designed to inspire its staff and students to ‘Give More, Get More, Be More’.

Changemaker Week, which runs from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October, aims to bring together the core themes and values of the University’s ‘Changemaker Campus’ status.

The University has been internationally recognised for its commitment to social innovation and entrepreneurship by being designated a ‘Changemaker Campus’ by Ashoka U – the global association of the world’s leading universities supporting social entrepreneurs – and was the first in the UK to be awarded this honour.

The week will see a series of activities taking place across both University campuses, each with a Changemaker theme.

The events include a business ideas generation workshop; an inspirational talk from actor, playwright and mentor Rikki Beadle-Blair; a credit union awareness day and a £10 social enterprise challenge.

Students will also be able to attend a Changemaker Personal Development Programme event, designed to raise aspirations for what they can achieve in life, build resilience and confidence to support studies and future employability.

The first-ever Changemaker Awards ceremony will also be taking place at Highgate House, Creaton, to recognise those who have taken part in Changemaker activities.

Wray Irwin, Head of the University of Northampton Centre for Employability and Engagement, said: “This year we are delighted to be recognising excellence in Changemaking across the University with the inaugural Changemaker awards; recognising the achievements of those who have really made a difference to people’s lives.

“It is this commitment to Transforming Lives and Inspiring Change through Changemaking that differentiates Northampton from other universities, and the week will showcase the best of our Changemaker activities.”
