A senior lecturer with a quarter of a century’s experience in marketing is helping to inspire the next generation of marketers – and make sure they have the skills needed to thrive in a changing world.

“Marketing makes such a fantastic career, because it’s amazingly dynamic and always changing,” said Grant Timms, Programme Leader of the Marketing Management degree course at the University of Northampton.

“If you think about technology and social change, the world is changing so fast, and our job as marketers, is to keep up with it.

“One of things I teach is understanding how we can add value to customers in the future – because in five years’ time students will have graduated and be working, so I need to prepare them for five years’ time.

“While we do talk about all the social media tools that are in use today, who’s to say they’re going to be here in five years’ time? So I teach students the skills to think in a creative way for a variety of scenarios. These skills will be useful for a lifetime in marketing.”
