From Chronicle & Echo to the corridors of power – Clive Lewis MP to talk to journalism students

Date 18.11.2016

A successful son of Northampton will be giving journalism students at the town’s University an insight into his rise from his local newspaper to the Houses of Parliament.

Clive Lewis, who is MP for Norwich South, spent time doing work experience at the Chronicle & Echo newspaper in the 1990s, before progressing to BBC Look East. He was appointed to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet in 2015 as Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, becoming Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in the October 2016 reshuffle.

Mr Lewis’s visit has been arranged by Senior Lecturer in Journalism, Hilary Scott, who was his mentor during his work experience stint at the Chronicle & Echo.

Hillary said: “We’re delighted to welcome Clive back to Northampton to talk to our journalism students. Like them, he started his career doing journalism work experience before going on to the BBC and ultimately to Parliament.

“I hope his visit will demonstrate that a degree can take you onwards and upwards in life, even into the corridors of power.”

The talk takes place on Wednesday 7 December at Avenue Campus.
