On A-level results day (Thursday 18 August), the University of Northampton took more than 1,800 calls within the first few hours of telephone lines opening.

The University’s Clearing Hotline, open from 8am until 8pm on Thursday, was manned by expert advisers who guided applicants through the process, explained their options and supported applications.

Between 8am and 5pm, 1,843 calls were received, with a total of 569 places on courses offered to applicants – the University hopes to fill around 350-400 places during Clearing.

Some of the most popular courses included Psychology, Paramedic Science, Acting, Law, Computing, Accounting and Finance and Sport & Exercise Science

The lines will be open between 8am and 8pm on Friday 19 August, from 9am on Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Monday.

Antony Bounds, Head of Admissions, said: “We’ve been really pleased with the first day of Clearing, with a steady flow of calls throughout the day.

“We’ll be keeping our hotline open to give people every opportunity to apply for a course.”

Hundreds of potential students are expected to visit the University’s Open Day on Saturday. The day will provide potential applicants with an opportunity to visit the two campuses, meet academics and obtain advice and guidance on a range of issues from module choice, funding and accommodation.
