The University of Northampton's Avenue Gallery presents 'Sensualities', an exhibition of projected and screen-based video and photographic pieces that are framed by, and implicitly address, academic debates relating to dance practice as research.

Evocative and thoughtful, 'Sensualities' is a joint exhibition by interdisciplinary dance makers/academics Jane Bacon and Vida Midgelow. Developing their ongoing work as Co-Directors of the Choreographic Lab (The University of Northampton) they present a collection of works that articulate the experience of moving and being moved using video, text and photographic imagery.

In her new work Dr. Midgelow uses close up shots and tightly framed images of the dancer's body in an exploration of skin, screen and nakedness, whilst Dr. Bacon explores landscape and writing as alternative inspirations or 'fields' for generating creative articulations that speak to the inter-relationship between Psyche, Soma and Spirit.

To coincide with the exhibition, Avenue Gallery will be hosting a symposium on Wednesday 23rd February from 1-5pm entitled 'Moving Forwards: Practice as Research in Dance', which will investigate current agendas in Practice as Research across Dance Practices. For more information about this free event please contact vida.midgelow@northampton.ac.uk.

'Sensualities' will run from 7-25 February 2011 and is open to the public Mondays-Fridays 10am-4pm plus the evening of Tuesday 8 February from 5-8pm. Admission is free. Avenue Gallery is located in The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus on St. George's Avenue, Northampton NN2 6JD. For more information about the exhibition please contact the Gallery on 01604 893046 or email gallery@northampton.ac.uk.
