Northampton Business student launches Latvian newspaper for the UK

A student from The University of Northampton’s Business School has launched a newspaper for Latvians living in the UK.
Datsa
Gaile, 37, who is in her third year of BA Business Management, is a Latvian
national but now lives in Kenilworth, just over the county border.
As
well as studying for her degree, Ms Gaile is also a trained bi-lingual
paralegal and saw a need for a Latvian-language newspaper and networking
website for her fellow nationals now working in the UK.
Her
newspaper, Anglo Baltic News, is a monthly free publication, produced in
traditional black-and-white broadsheet format.
Datsa
credits the University for helping her with her publication, saying:
"I applied for a grant and business start up programme at The University of Northampton's Enterprise Club, which gave me both capital for publishing a newspaper and a knowledge of how to start the business in the UK.
"It's a monthly edition at
the moment. Hopefully in a year we will be publishing weekly!"
Anglo
Baltic News is distributed to 200 Eastern European shops, who sell Latvian
food, nationwide.
Entrepreneurial
Datsa is currently in negotiations with an airline to give it away for free to
passengers flying between London and Riga.
Her
success with Anglo Baltic News saw her being interviewed at the University
recently by Latvian TV.
Anglo
Baltic News is the first Latvian-language newspaper to be launched since 2004,
before Latvia joined the European Union.
