Published Wednesday 21st July 2010

Sam Wadsworth, an exciting young painter and BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate of The University of Northampton, will be showing a new body of work at his solo gallery show which opens this week.

Sam Wadsworth

Celebrating the beauty of Northampton in its buildings and parks, people and places, Sam has created a new collection of 'Portraits of Northampton' which runs from Saturday 24 July to Sunday 10 October 2010.

Featuring famous buildings and famous people, these vibrant, contemporary paintings will be on display within one of Northampton's most important historic houses - 78 Derngate: The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House & Galleries.

The new paintings include the Lift Tower; the grandeur of All Saints Church and a portrait of one of Northampton's new famous sons, Matt Smith of Dr Who fame.

All together, these paintings and prints make a cohesive collection celebrating Northampton as it is now.

"My paintings are concerned with light and colour and the simplification of form. As a proud resident of Northampton, my motivation behind this collection of work was to highlight the beauty that the town and surrounding countryside has to offer us," Sam commented about his work.

Sam was born in Cheltenham and moved to Northampton to study Fine Art at the University. He studied at the Princes Drawing School , London and later taught at the Northampton School for Boys.

Sam is a regular exhibitor with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In 2009 he was made a member of the Livery Company of the Worshipful Society of Painter Stainers, London .

Once Artist in Residence at The University of Northampton and Maison Crème Anglaise Studio & Gallery in Burgundy, Sam worked in Japan and was voted Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Federation of Small Businesses UK.

Sam is now a successful and award-winning portrait painter. He continues to live and work in Northampton.
