Avenue Gallery Corridor 4 October – 19 November 2010
An exciting exhibition celebrating the diversity of book art has just opened in the Gallery Corridor at The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus.
This annual exhibition called (e)motive, now in its sixth year, features more than 50 artists' books which were selected from the recent exhibition '(e)motive' at artworks-mk.
For the Northampton exhibition participants were invited to choose either the letter 'e', the word 'motive' or the word 'emotive', and interpret it in book form.
Melanie Bush, Senior Lecturer at The University of Northampton, is curating the exhibition with Dr Emma Powell, from Leicester de Montfort University.
Melanie explained:
Come and see the exhibition for yourself. It is open every day and is on display in the corridor outside the Gallery at Avenue Campus until November 19.Ingenious, inspiring, thought provoking and intriguing ... it's good to feel such uncommon emotions.
These extracts from the exhibition's comments book reflect the variety of work to be seen - from adapted medical boxes, to a miniature stage set, from a book based on heart beats to paper flowers in memorium - each response is so different. All are great examples of the craft skills and creativity which drives book artists and makes them passionate about the métier. The response from book artists across the UK and further afield demonstrates the huge range of media, techniques and scale that book art embraces.
