Sisters graduate from Diploma in Nursing

Two sisters have graduated from The University of Northampton on the same day...and from the same course.

Amy and Louise Wing, aged 23 and 22, from Duston, Northamptonshire, both studied the Diploma in Nursing (DipHE)

Both now work at Northampton General Hospital - Louise in an Emergency Assessment Unit and Amy in a renal ward, and they are looking forward to getting their uniforms after three years of study.

We've both worked in hospitals since we were 16. I missed a year so it was completely coincidental that I came into the same intake as Louise. We've given each other great support being on the same course and it was easier to revise.

I was on placement at Northampton General Hospital when I saw their Open Day advertised for job applications. I told my placement supervisor how keen I was to apply, and Amy applied also and was able to select her ward.

The Wednesday Summer Graduation Ceremonies celebrated graduates from the School of Education and the School of Health. Also graduating on the day were four students from the School of Health who had been sponsored by the Hong Kong Health Authority to study BSc (Hons) Podiatry full-time. They will be returning to their jobs in Hong Kong post-graduation.

Receiving an Honorary Fellowship from the School of Health in the afternoon ceremony was Dr Brian Silk, a leading contributor to nursing and medical education. Addressing the graduates, their friends and families, and distinguished guests, he commented:

I wish you all a happy and fulfilled life.

For the first time this year, The University of Northampton's Summer Graduation Ceremonies are being shown live online.
