‘Work in Progress’: An Exhibition of Staff Research from the School of The Arts
Published Thursday 16th June 2011
Avenue Gallery is pleased to present ‘Work in Progress’, an exhibition which showcases the broad range of research activities currently being undertaken by staff from School of The Arts.
The exhibition has been organised as part of the School's Summer Arts Season and opened last week, alongside the Summer Shows of work by final year Art and Design students.
The exhibition aims to provide a snapshot of recent and ongoing research projects within the School of The Arts, and includes work by twenty members of staff. The broad range of work on display is representative of the School's main subject areas, from paintings, prints, photographic work and exhibition catalogues by Fine Art and Design staff to recently published books, journal articles and conference papers by lecturers in English, Popular Culture and Art History and Theory.
'Work in Progress' will run until 8 July and is open to the public Mondays-Fridays 10am-4pm. Admission is free. Avenue Gallery is located in The University of Northampton's Avenue Campus on St. George's Avenue, Northampton NN2 6JD. For more information about the exhibition please contact the Gallery on 01604 893046 or email gallery@northampton.ac.uk.The spirit of the exhibition is to provide an experiential and intellectual space for sharing and debating work and ideas that are growing out of the diverse personal research interests of staff. It is quite challenging for any researcher to share their research when it is still underway and in its early form, but all of the exhibitors believe in the importance and value of transparency and in open discussion of research in progress.
The show is part of an ongoing strategy to enrich the environment of research generally and to help guarantee that research informs teaching and learning in the School.
