Date 1.12.2016

UNO Buses Northampton finished top in the top five for the prestigious ‘Top Independent Operator’ award in the 2016 UK Bus Awards.

Operated as a social enterprise, UNO Buses Northampton serve over two million passengers annually; linking the University campuses with the town centre, bus and train stations; as well as services to Daventry, Milton Keynes and Bedford. All profits from the Uno Buses Northampton are invested back in to the University, providing capital for the University’s scholarships fund.

James Thorpe, Managing Director of UNO Buses Northampton said: “I’m delighted that UNO Buses Northampton was featured in the top five of the ‘Top Independent Operator’ award 2016.  It’s been a fantastic year for UNO in Northampton; we introduced five new buses, at an investment of £575,000, which will reduce the carbon footprint of the bus company by the equivalent to the C02 saved by 42,000 forest trees annually, saving the same amount of CO2 as removing nine cars off the road for a whole year.

“We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, our UNO Buses are keeping Northamptonshire moving, and we’re now transporting nearly 24,000 students, staff and members of the local community people in and around Northamptonshire each week.”

UNO Buses Northampton are committed to offering sustainable travel options for our students and staff, offering discounted travel 52 weeks of the year on Weekdays.

The independent panel of judges assessed shortlisted just five for the ‘Top Independent Operator’ award.
