A taste of Cuban art is coming to Northampton

Date 27.09.2016

Three influential figures in the art world will be bringing a bit of Cuban magic to the University of Northampton in October to talk about their work and how they create art in very different and often contested circumstances.

Artists, Luis Camejo and Adislen Reyes, along with curator Chrislie Perez will be visiting the University as part of a 10-day visit to the UK as part of a major Cuban art exhibition. Each will give an overview on their work, the inspirations behind their art and a rare glimpse into the eclectic and interesting cultural life in Cuba.

Catriona Leahy, Lecturer in Printmaking at the University of Northampton, commented: “We are thrilled to be kicking off the new term by welcoming Luis, Adislen and Chrislie to talk about their art and the vibrant cultural scene they find themselves in today.  In Cuba, art does not stay in galleries, but takes to the streets and in this spirit they will each discuss their experiences of creating art in a challenging environment, both politically and socially.”

The event takes place on Monday 10 October at Avenue Campus and is open to the public from 10am to 12pm. For further information or to book a place, please email Catriona Leahy with Cuba in the email subject.
