Research in the School of The Arts
The School of the Arts has a thriving internationally recognised research community and a substantial body of students currently studying for and successfully completing MPhil/PhDs in English Literature, Performance Studies, Fine Art, Design and Media Studies. At present we have particular clusters of students attached to our research centres - The Centre of Contemporary Fiction & Narrative and The Centre for Practice-Led Research in the Arts, incorporating The Choreographic Lab.
As a School we encourage innovative, critical and creative research. Postgraduate Research students are able to take advantage of the rich and varied research culture within the School and the wider University. Students are offered a comprehensive programme of generic, discipline and project based training. There is also the opportunity to gain teaching experiences, follow the HEd teaching qualification, undertake research assistant / journal editing roles and join research groupings. Such training is an essential part of the postgraduate research experience, both for successful completion of the degree course, and for personal and careers-related development.
Supervision is offered by an energetic research-active team with a broad range of expertise, and includes scholars, practitioners and established researchers with international reputations. You can look-up our specialist areas for research supervision and read staff profile in our Skills and Expertise Directory.
