Research Student Committee (RSC)
- All research degree students at The University of Northampton (full time and part time) are eligible for and encouraged to attend meetings of the RSC. These meetings take place every term, and the role of the Committee is to allow students to raise any general issues relating to the welfare of research students. The meetings are chaired and organised by research degree students themselves, but are also always attended in part, and therefore supported by, the Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Hugh Matthews. This arrangement allows the Committee to discuss directly with the Dean those issues that have arisen. Examples of issues successfully raised at the RSC are:
- an increase in the payment level of bursaries
- clarification of research ethics guidelines
- equality of access to resources for students based at Avenue Campus.
The meetings of the RSC are also attended by the students who are currently serving as the postgraduate representatives for the different research related committees (Research Committee, Research Degrees Committee and the Research Ethics Committee). This enables any issues that relate to research matters to be aired more broadly. Furthermore, it establishes a link between the different Schools, and the general research student body as a whole.
Role of the RSC
- The RSC is a body that represents the views of the postgraduate research community at The University of Northampton, acting as a forum for the discussion of all matters relating to the research student experience.
- The RSC will actively seek answers to and enhance the postgraduate experience at The University of Northampton, including but not restricted to the research environment (e.g. quality of supervision, general support and student welfare).
