Sports partnership

The University of Northampton has teamed up with King's Park Sports to offer staff and students a wide range of activities at a convenient location and an affordable price. The membership at King's Park (which includes use of Benham Sports Arena, King's Park Tennis Centre and Benham Rock) enables you to a discount on the normal membership prices.

Benham Sports Area

Benham Sports Arena is one of the East Midlands largest and most exciting sports centres. The arena floor measures 45x42m on which a whole host of exciting sporting activities can take place simultaneously. The arena's flexibility means that it not only hosts social sporting facilities but exhibitions, University exams, regional sports competitions and national tournaments as well. Retractable seating for 300 enable provision to be made for spectators when required. All the facilities are on one level, making it fully accessible to wheelchair users and special needs groups.

Standing at 7m high and with 30 different routes, Benham Rock is the impressive new indoor climbing wall with Benham Sports Arena. Whether you are an experienced climber wanting to hone your skills, or a complete novice wanting to try something new, then the Benham Rock is the place to go! The climbing wall is open to individuals and groups as well as being available for parties. Individuals wishing to use the wall must have first filled out a registration form - although this is not applicable to any instructor led sessions which are supervised by a qualified CWA (Climbing Wall Award) instructor. Instructed sessions must be booked in advance, however individual climbers can just turn up, provided they have the relevant experience to climb unsupervised. Equipment is available to hire but experienced climbers are invited to use their own harnesses and belay devices should they so wish.

The King's Park Tennis Centre is run in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). Its state-of-the-art facilities and ideal location make it one of the premiere tennis venues in the country, ideal for all levels of play. With four acrylic indoor and four outdoor American clay courts, King's Park can offer pay and play tennis throughout the year. We can offer individual lessons and coaching, a pool table within the facility and a viewing gallery set in our café area.
