National Student Volunteering Week
20 to 25 February 2012
With 63% of students taking part in some form of formal voluntary activity since they started university it is clear to see that Student Volunteering is a strong force for both students and communities. 95% of students who volunteer are driven to do so out of a desire to improve things or to help people. Volunteering enhances employability, with 51% of recent graduates under 30 years old in paid work saying that volunteering helped them secure a job Bursting the Bubble: Students, Volunteering and the Community (2010).

| 5-7pm | Grendon Lecture Theatre, Park Campus | Cultural Volunteering in the Community workshop | Find out how to share your cultural background and/or language with community groups and schools in this interactive workshop that will also help you to plan your own activities. | Book here |
| Any time all week! | Avenue and Park Campus | Collect money for Friends of Kabel | Help collect money for Friends of Kabel, a new charity supporting bereaved families of babies lost through late miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss. Join the Bucketeers any time this week to collect on either campus. | Book here |

| 9.30am-1pm | Local primary school, Town Centre | Pond Building and Gardening with South Court Environmental | An opportunity to learn new skills and work in a team to improve the environmental area of a local school. Hot drinks will be provided but please bring any other food/drink you might want. Wellies and coats are a must! | Book here |
| 10am-3pm | Bradlaugh Fields, near Park Campus | Conservation with BTCV | Working alongside the experts you will be shown how to create footpaths, chop logs, make flower bed improvements and do seat and bench maintenance. Volunteer for the whole day or just a few hours. Hot drinks will be provided but please bring any other food/drink you might want. Wellies and coats are a must! | Book here |
| 11am-2pm | Library Foyer, Park | Working in the Community and Voluntary Sector | Talk to a range of organisations about working in the community and voluntary sector, gain hints and tips on the skills that you need to build to make yourself more employable. Learn more about the community and volunteering. | No need to book |
| 12.30-4pm | Abington Lodge | Beehive Maintenance with South Court Environmental | An opportunity to work with South Court Environmental cleaning beehives - without the bees!
