Occupational health and safety
Our goal is to assist the University of Northampton in providing a healthy, safe working environment for staff, students and visitors and thereby fulfilling its legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
We aim to achieve this by:
- Assisting managers and employees to enable them to manage health and safety effectively within their areas, therefore ensuring statutory compliance
- Promoting health and safety awareness throughout the University of Northampton
- Promoting good practice amongst managers and employees
- Providing information, instruction and training to staff, students and visitors

The Fire Safety Notice - Electrical Heaters (PDF 205KB) safety alert outlines the the circumstances around a recent electrical fire that occurred in the Maidwell Building. It also provides an opportunity to remind staff of the good practices that should be followed when using heaters and any other portable electrical appliance.
