Curriculum development
In the context of the Learning and Teaching Strategy, two of the key areas of development are:
- Internationalisation of the curriculum
- Accessibility of the curriculum
Internationalisation
This is a topic which affects all students. According to the Higher Education Academy there are two main aims:
- To meet the educational needs of an expanding number of international students
- To equip all students, home and international, with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in an increasingly international world of work.
HEA Subject Centres are addressing this topic and it has been the focus of internal workshop sessions: download 'Internationalisation and sustainability'.
Accessibility
Download Designing modules for accessibility - guidelines for staff to help all students make the most of their course.
These guidelines are based on the work of the University of Northampton's Learning and Teaching Methodologies Working Group and a presentation by Mick Healey from the University of Gloucestershire. Find out more about Accessible information.
Teachability - Creating an Accessible Curriculum for Students with Disabilities, (2000) SHEFCE, University of Strathclyde, was the first publication from a major project undertaken by the University of Strathclyde. Since this was produced the Teachability Project has created a comprehensive website which looks beyond assessment to curriculum design and delivery.
