Performance and Development Review (PDR)
Performance and Development Review (PDR) is a management process that focuses on the performance and development of staff.
The process is intended to:
- Align individual objectives with School/Professional Services and the wider strategic objectives of the University
- Underpin Phase 2 of the Pay Framework Agreement - Progression Within and Between Grades
- Recognise individual achievements and support development needs in job roles, professional requirements and/or career ambitions
- Support the collaboration of a University-wide annual training plan and training plans specific to each School and Professional Service
- Support succession planning
The PDR procedure outlines the structure and process for conducting and/or maximising the potential of PDR.
Formal documented PDRs are required once a year between 1 May - 30 September. One interim review is required and should usually take place between 1 November and 31 March. To assist with the process you will need the following documentation:
- Performance and Development Review form
- Guidance for conducting a Performance and Development Review
- Guidance for maximising the potential of your Performance and Development Review
Training is available for those new to PDR and for those who need to update or refresh and are as follows:
Conducting PDR guidance and training is available and is mandatory prior to undertaking reviews and this will enable the reviewer to undertake a successful PDR meeting. By preparing for the meeting appropriately you will provide the reviewer with a solid structure and process which, in turn, will ensure the reviewee achieves clear outcomes. A well conducted meeting will give the reviewee confidence in the PDR process and give clear feedback on performance.
A list of dates and an outline of the conducting PDR and conducting PDR refresher is available.
Maximising the Potential of your PDR guidance and training is available and is mandatory for all new staff at the end of their probationary period with the exception of those nominated by their Dean or Director to conduct PDRs.
A list of dates and an outline of the maximising the potential of your PDR and the maximising the potential of your PDR refresher is available.
As part of the process the reviewer should also have active discussions in connection with accelerated increments and contribution points. Further details are also available.
