Waste minimisation
On average, each person in the UK throws away about half a tonne of rubbish each year. That is a countrywide annual total of about 30 million tonnes. The University of Northampton is committed to conserving raw materials and reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfills.
Staff and students are encouraged to help by:
-
Reducing consumption and usage of materials that create waste in the first place
-
Re-using items as much as possible, either personally or by giving them to charity
-
Recycling items if it is not possible to re-use them directly
Recycling facilities exist in all Halls of Residence as well as in academic and administrative areas on both campuses.
