Energy saving and carbon management
The University is committed to making efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy, which will help to lessen our consumption of finite resources and our contribution to climate change.
To this end, the University has developed a Carbon Management Plan and is investigating and undertaking actions across the estate to improve its energy efficiency; including the installation of high efficiency lighting, the replacement of old boilers and the monitoring of energy usage.
We all use energy every day, much of which involves the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas); either directly for heating, cooking and transport, or indirectly for electricity generation.
One way in which everyone can play their part and make a difference is in the elimination of wasted energy; whether in Halls of Residence, in academic and administrative areas on campus or at home.
Carbon footprint calculator
We are currently encouraging students and staff to use the WWF's Carbon footprint calculator to see how ecologically friendly their lifestyles are and find out how they can reduce their carbon footprint.
