Green Travel Plan
The University of Northampton's first Green Travel Plan was published in November 2005 and set out the background and objectives for reducing reliance on single occupancy car travel.
In the three years following its development the University made significant progress towards implementing the recommendations and measures in the Travel Plan, including seeing a step change in the provision and use of public transport to its campuses.
As a result of travel monitoring and changes to campus infrastructure, there was a requirement for the Green Travel Plan to be updated, so that further measures could be developed and implemented. A revised Green Travel Plan was launched in May 2008.

The key objectives of the updated Travel Plan are to:
- Reduce the environmental impact of travel associated with the University
- Reduce parking congestion on campus and in the locality during term-time
- Improve the options available for travel to the University and between sites
- Improve the safety and accessibility of travel within and to the University
Measures aimed at addressing these objectives up to 2011 are laid out within the plan and include increased public transport provision, improved facilities for cycling and walking, improved car park management, and the investigation of parking restrictions and charging.
The University encourages students, staff and visitors to consider using alternative methods of transport to help reduce the impact of car travel on the environment. By working in close partnership with Northamptonshire County Council and other strategic partners, the University plans to continue developing and improving the range of travel options available to members of the University and our visitors.
