Study support
The University of Northampton provides excellent resources to support students' academic studies.
IT Centres
The University's Information Services department offers IT Centres with networked PCs providing standard Microsoft and Internet software.
Printing, scanning and DVD burning facilities are available at Park Campus and Avenue Campus. Mac computers are also available at Avenue and a help service is provided in both centres. Both centres offer wireless connectivity and 24-hour access throughout the year.
Information Services also offer a range of free IT training opportunities.
Libraries
There are libraries at both campuses. The libraries are open seven days a week in term time and provide access to over 375,000 books, thousands of journals (in print and online). Networked PCs (and Macs at Avenue Campus) with printing, scanning and DVD burning facilities are also available. Library staff are happy to help with all enquiries and in support of all library resources.
Media support
Digital video and music editing suites and audio-visual equipment are also available.
Extra support and assistance including access to assistive software and equipment is available to students with disabilities and additional needs.
Academic librarians
Academic Librarians are available in the library to help students make the most of the information and resources available to them. They provide induction sessions in the first few days of courses, skills workshops later in the year and specialist training at key points in university courses.
Students are welcome to ask for one-to-one assistance throughout their time at the University.
Guidance and tuition
Students at The University of Northampton can access specialist tuition in a number of areas, including essay writing, referencing and mathematics. The University's Centre for Academic Practice (CfAP) provides one-to-one support and group workshops, as well as online support and open learning packs.
Personal tutors
Each student at the University is assigned a personal tutor by their course leader. They offer support and guidance and can advise on issues such as mitigating circumstances and extensions. They can also help with Personal Development Planning.
