Private sector housing
Some students choose to live in private sector housing; Accommodation Services provide a range of services to assist students with this.
Download the Student Guide to...private sector rented accommodation (Word 663KB); this includes information on deposit legislation, how to deal with repairs, maintenance issues and more.
The Accommodation Services team maintains a database of properties. We do not recommend properties or landlords, but try to ensure all properties on our lists meet a minimum standard. The Accommodation Services team also offers advice on a range of accommodation issues.

Housing List
The Housing List for September 2012 will be re-opened on Wednesday 8 February 2012. We recommend properties from the Housing List as they are registered with us and before a property can be advertised, it must have met certain criteria.
Housing List criteria
-
The University must have made an initial visit to the property
-
In many cases the Local Borough Council must have approved its condition
-
Where gas is in the property, we insist on valid gas safety certificates
It is only when a property has fulfilled these criteria is it advertised to students on the lists.
Private sector housing (international students)
International students seeking private accommodation are advised to contact Accommodation Services to discuss their needs. We understand there are often financial and cultural barriers to renting in the UK and we will do our utmost to guide students through unfamiliar processes and legalities.
If you are experiencing difficulties finding accommodation, you may wish to contact International Students' Support where advice and guidance is available for international students studying at The University of Northampton.
