Thought Leadership Series Partnerships build success

One of a programme of guest lectures on topical business issues from the CENTRE FOR CITIZENSHIP, ENTERPRISE & GOVERNANCE (CCEG)

In a world of increasing connectivity and change effective Partnerships are the key component of building a successful business. Companies that prosper fixate on doing only what they are excellent at - allowing others to deliver everything else. Building successful partnerships is a mix of diplomacy and negotiation made more complex by cultural and commercial differences. How do you ensure effective product, project and business delivery in a world of partnership and cultural challenge? How can you maximise the chance of success through effective partnerships?

Over the last twenty years Mark Mulcahey has developed and nurtured many complex partnerships for companies as diverse as Walt Disney and Samsung in markets from the US to China to India and Japan. Mark will draw on this experience to try to provide some guidance and answers. Building on his previous lecture on the 22nd October Mark will talk about the critical importance of new forms of social communication in delivering effective partnerships.

This is a free of charge event open to all members of the community as well as students and staff.  There will be a buffet reception in the Hub from 6pm and the guest lecture will begin at 6.30pm for approximately 1 hour plus time for Q&A's.

How to sort out the John Terry in your workplace

Bad and inappropriate language have been in the news quite a bit recently. Look at the way the FA sanctioned John Terry for the racial abuse of Rio Ferdinand. What's the language like in your workplace? Suitably genteel or a little more industrial? We are getting more and more casual in the way that we speak, but employers still have a duty to protect workers from improper language. What challenges do we face with swearing at work? What risks do they pose? How do we deal with it?

This talk will tell you how to manage these problems in a lawful and ethical way. Speaker Kate Russell will give you hints tips and tactics to help you spot problems at an early stage, nip them firmly in the bud, getting you back on track, saving you time and money and reducing your risk of tribunal claims.

This is a free of charge event open to all members of the community as well as students and staff.  There will be a buffet reception in the Hub from 6pm and the guest lecture will begin at 6.30pm for approximately 1 hour plus time for Q&A's.

THE EVOLVING POLITICAL ORDER : THE CASE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Professor Stefan Schepers
Co-founder and Director of EPPA (Brussels) and AEAC (Johannesburg)

13th June 2013.  Join us for a Cheese and Wine reception from 6pm.  The lecture will commence at 6.30pm

The development of the state, first in China, as the central political institution in societies has culminated in the Westphalian state model, first developed in Europe and later exported worldwide. It has been instrumental in rapid economic growth, social and cultural modernity and, for a short time, European imperialism.

The economic consequences of two intra-European wars and of technology and consumer driven economic growth, together with ad hoc political and societal circumstances, forced a re-thinking of the European political order and led to the emergence of the first supra-national organisation of states, as opposed to the hitherto inter-national forms of cooperation between states.

Does integration mean the death of the great big creative idea?

Does trying to make one single message across all channels dilute or increase the power of a  great creative idea? Is it even necessary to focus on creating a great big creative idea, or are many smaller, bespoke ideas and messages more effective? Is integration just a dirty word when it comes to creativity?
