What is equality and diversity?
Equality is about making society fairer and more equitable, where everyone has the same opportunities to fulfil their potential. Diversity is about recognising everyone is different in many visible and non-visible ways and respecting this difference within a human rights framework.
Aims of the Equality and Diversity Unit
The Equality and Diversity Unit at The University of Northampton is responsible for ensuring equality and diversity objectives regarding students, staff, visitors and contractors to the University are carried through.
The Unit's responsibilities include:

Supporting regular equality reviews or screenings of all key policies, procedures, services and guidance documents

Advising the University on meeting legal and statutory requirements in respect of equality and diversity

Acting as an internal 'consultant' to the University community on equality and diversity matters

Supporting the policy and procedure regarding harassment, bullying and hate incidents

Raising the profile of equality and diversity issues through project work, lectures and seminars and other activities
