How to apply
The Student Loans Company assessment of the student's household income is used to determine eligibility for The University of Northampton Bursary. Students do not need to apply separately for a bursary assessment.
Students will automatically be assessed on their bursary eligibility unless they choose to opt out (by ticking the opt-out box in the declaration section of the Student Finance application form). Students can only be assessed by the University if their household income is fully verified by Student Finance England (or relevant local assessment body).
Bursary payment
Bursaries are normally paid in the spring term of each academic year. The bursary is payable in each year of the course provided the student continues to meet the criteria. Payment is made through the Student Loans Company to the bank account provided by the student for their loan payments.
| Assessed household income | Bursary each year |
|---|---|
| £0 to £40,000 | £500 |
The level of a student's household income must be assessed and verified by Student Finance England/Wales/NI or by SAAS to enable the University to confirm eligibility for the bursary.
The University cannot assess students for bursary entitlement unless the household income is verified - outstanding evidence of income required by Student Finance England is likely to delay bursary payment.
When is the bursary paid?
The University of Northampton bursary payments for the academic year 2011/12 are due to be made on 19 March 2012.
Please note the deadline for being assessed for a bursary for academic year 2011/12 is 1 June 2012.
Overpaid bursary
Bursary assessments are based on the household income information provided by students to Student Finance England (or other regional assessment body).
In the event that the household income is later confirmed to be above £40,000 this will cancel entitlement to the bursary and the £500 award will have to be repaid to the University.
